Interview: Cory McCoy

I recently interviewed a good friend of mine and the mastermind behind I Want To Help You Band, Cory McCoy. You can read his interview below where Cory tells us how IWTHYB started, what it has to offer, and what we should expect to be seeing next!

_____________________________________________________________

Where did the idea of I Want To Help Your Band (IWTHYB) come from?
I Want To Help Your Band was kind of always there. I have always had the idea in one form or fashion. My first real attempt at IWTHYB would have to be the clothing company I ran for about a year and a half called Indie Out Loud. What I’m doing now is actually what that company was intended to be. The lack of experience and my young age didn’t allow the company to grow in the right way though so it fell apart rather quickly. IWTHYB has just always been what I have been aiming for and now I have it.

For those that haven’t checked out your site before, what does IWTHYB have to offer for musicians and bands alike?
We are setting our service up to aid bands in every aspect of their musical careers. We essentially want to be able to be there for musicians during every key stage of their development.

Band Interview: Starship Romance

Chase Martinez of Starship Romance took some time out to answer some questions for us!

_____________________________________________________________

According to the Starship Romance Trailer you did with Yamo Films, you said that you’ve been playing music since you were a teenager. What led you into picking up an instrument in the first place?
Chase: Well my dad was a guitar player, and singer ever since I could remember so I always had a musical background of some sort. My first instrument was actually a drum set when I was like 3, so I’ve always loved the drums! When I was like 11 or so I got my first bass and kind of played that. Most of my playing then consisted of me jumping around in my bedroom slapping the bass to butt rock! hahaha I eventually learned how to play just listening to cds and learning covers…and somewhere along the line I got better I guess. haha

Band Interview: The Jealous Sea

Band Name: The Jealous Sea
Location: Boston, MA
Members: Mathew David (Vocals/Guitar), Tom Linnane (Bass/Vocals)
All questions answered my Mathew.

_________________________________________________________

First things first, how did you come up with the name The Jealous Sea?
On the drive home, we’d joke about the kid you used to see, and his jealousy” It’s a misheard Fall Out Boy lyric from “Tell That Mick He Just Made My List Of Things To Do Today”. I thought it sounded cool, so I took it. Thanks, Pete Wentz.

You guys played both dates of the So Last Summer Festival with a handful of amazing bands. How were the shows and who were you most excited to see?
Day 1 was awesome! All of the Hey Monday guys were awesome, and Cassadee was a total sweetheart. We’ve played with Stereo two or three times before, so it’s always cool to see them and their crew again, and the Sparks guys, we played a sold-out show in CT with them the night before, so it was great to be able to play another show with them the next day. Day 2 got rained out which totally sucks but we’re playing with The Cab in Providence, RI on November 28th, so grab your tickets and come out to that show.

You’ve shared the stage with bands like Hey Monday, Valencia, and The Maine. If you could collaborate with any band that you’ve played with - or would one day want to play with - who would it be?

Band Interview: The Real

Band Name: The Real
Location: Orlando, FL
Members: Evan, Felipe, Wade, Carson, Sean
Ages: 19-21

__________________________________________________________

On your facebook page, you guys state that “The word ‘real’ is defined as not artificial, fraudulent, or illusory. That is our mission, to never lose sight of what our core values are and above all, write the music we want to write.” It’s some pretty inspiring stuff! How did you guys come to agree on that name for the band - or who came up with it?
Well we actually got the name from a band we all liked called “Nevertheless” they have a song titled “The Real”, it just seems to fit the statement we’d like to convey with our music.

How would you describe your sound to someone that has never heard of The Real before?
A really intense roller coaster they breaks off the track and right when you are about to hit the concrete you wake up to breakfast in bed.
